Recognition of Prior Learning
How to have skills and experience you already hold counted towards a qualification.
What RPL is
Recognition of Prior Learning assesses the skills and knowledge you already have, from work, previous training, volunteering or life experience, against the requirements of a unit of competency. If you can demonstrate competence, you do not need to repeat the training.
Credit transfer
Credit transfer is different from RPL. If you already hold a statement of attainment or qualification for an identical unit issued by another RTO, ESG will grant credit for that unit on sight of the certified record.
How to apply
- Tell ESG you want to apply for RPL or credit transfer, before or at enrolment.
- We give you an RPL kit listing the evidence required for each unit.
- You gather evidence: work records, position descriptions, third-party reports, certificates, samples of work.
- An assessor reviews your evidence and may ask questions or observe you performing tasks.
- You receive a written outcome for each unit. You can appeal the decision. See Complaints and appeals.
